Pendock has installed radiator guards and pipe boxing at Slough Borough Council's Slough Ice Arena, protecting the heating services from damage and adding an extra level of safety for visitors using the facility, which includes an ice rink, climbing wall and gym.

Pendock's products were installed as part of a £12.7m refurbishment programme, in which the existing arena was rebuilt and extended to create a new ice facility and climbing centre. The arena also includes a gym, new changing rooms and toilets, new spectator seating and lighting and a café. During the renovation, Pendock worked with main contractor Morgan Sindall, supplying and fitting 24 radiator guards, as well as pipe boxing in the toilets and changing rooms.

Manufactured in the UK, Pendock's Ultima Plus radiator guards are designed to provide the highest levels of safety. As well as protecting the Ice Arena's heating services from damage, the guards have radiused 'bullnose' corners and a low surface temperature, providing an extra level of safety should anyone accidentally touch them.

Meanwhile, Pendock's MX and CH pipe boxing – which can be fitted at low or high level, vertically or horizontally and in corners – was installed to protect the associated pipework, and to reduce the risk of scalding from pipes carrying hot water. The pipe boxing also features rounded edges to protect against injury and ensure ease of cleaning, and is de-mountable for ease of access.

Karl Hoffman, project manager for Morgan Sindall, said: "I have used Pendock covers before on a number of projects; they are really good products which do exactly what we want, and the refurbishment of Slough Ice Arena was an ideal contract to use them on.

The architects had not previously worked with Pendock and appreciated the aesthetic and practical benefits they provided. The Ultima Plus guards, together with the MX casings, not only offer an attractive appearance but also protect the pipework and radiators from damage – which is important when people are wearing ice skates."

Pendock can offer a full solution, from site survey and design to manufacture and installation. Its products are available in a range of sizes, colours and finishes, but bespoke products can be made to order. For further information, please visit http://www.pendock.co.uk /.
